23RD ANNUAL HOUSTON GREEK FEST @ ST. BASIL THE GREAT GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH

Celebrate Greek culture all weekend long at St. Basil the Great Greek Orthodox Church! The event will feature Greek foods, pastries, shopping, dancing, church tours, and family activities. This is always a very popular event.
BLANKET BINGO @ MARKET SQUARE PARK
THURSDAY, MAY 17, 2018, 6 PM
If you have never experienced Blanket Bingo at Market Square Park, you are missing out. For $10, you get one bingo packet (9 games or so), and a dauber is $1 each. Bingo begins at 7 PM. Bring your own blanket, chairs, snacks, and beverages, or buy some treats from the vendors nearby.
KARBACH COOKOFF @ KARBACH BREWERY

Join the Karbach crew in raising money for the Robert Garner Firefighter Foundation. This event will feature live music from 5 different bands, a chili cook-off, and of course, Karbach beer.

INDIE CHEFS WEEK HOUSTON @ RIEL

Indie Chefs Week is coming to Houston this weekend. The purpose of this event is to give young and upcoming chefs a venue to present their talents and cook dishes that inspire them. Each evening’s “roster” will feature 12 chefs and 12 courses, each with wine pairings. Menus are up on their website and it will certainly be a very memorable (and delicious) evening.
KOLACHE FACTORY CHALLENGE 5K @ ADDICKS PARK & RIDE

A 5K is going on this weekend that involves a favorite Texan breakfast food – kolaches. There is a standard 5K with kolaches at the end OR you can partake in the challenge 5K, which involves eating three sausage and cheese kolaches at the 1.5 mile mark and then completing the rest of the race. There is also a “virtual run” option for those who prefer to sleep in. The event benefits Memorial Assistance Ministries.
CINCO IN THE CITY @ SILVER STREET STUDIOS

Start off your Cinco De Mayo right at Silver Street Studios, which will be transformed to resemble a Mexican town with string lights and papel picado. In the afternoon, you can shop with local Mexican American vendors, snack on authentic samplings from favorites such as Cuchara and Jarritos, or enjoy one of a many different musical acts that will be taking the main stage. In the evening, the real fiesta will start. Samplings from various regions of Mexico and top chefs, mescal tastings, salsa dancing, and margaritas will all be part of the experience. There will also be a live band and an adult piñata, stuffed with gift certificates and covetable prizes. (Note: the afternoon will be family friendly, and the evening celebration will be geared towards adults.)

Looking to celebrate downtown? Market Square Park is hosting a celebration and concert, complete with art vendors, snacks and treats from La Calle Tacos, and lawn games. Blankets and lawn chairs welcome if you want to stake out a spot on the lawn, or you can head to one of the many bars nearby for drink specials after. We suggest El Big Bad (who is hosting a Cinco De Mayo weekend-long party and pub crawl) and The Pastry War for your margarita fix.
SANTO DE MAYO FESTIVITIES @ ST. ARNOLD’S BREWERY

On Saturday, head to Montrose for the Santo De Mayo Pub Crawl. Starting at Rudyard’s, you will receive a punch card and take a pub crawl route that ends at La Grange at 6 PM. On Sunday, you can continue to fiesta with the St. Arnold’s Crew with a 5K, after party, and beer. Drink responsibly and have fun, kids.

Go enjoy the many offerings of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Highlights for foodies would include sampling some of the offerings from food vendors (check out the Gold Buckle award winners here) or listening to live music and enjoying a glass of wine in the Wine Garden. If the rain gets you down, go into NRG Center for shopping, livestock shows, and AGVenture (read: baby animals). Alternatively, you can head over to NRG Arena to watch a live auction; the Poultry Auction is Friday, Lamb & Goat Auction is Saturday, and School Art Auction is Sunday.
